Limbo at Aloha To SpringIt was an amazing April at Riley Intermediate. Here are a few exciting things we did.

This year Riley has the opportunity to adopt 11 chicken eggs and watch them grow into little chicks all while learning about incubation and embryology. We have had the chicks for 11 days now. As each day passes they grow a little stronger and a little bigger. At day 11 the chicks have already developed a beak, wings, legs, veins, a heart, and feathers. As they are growing they are moving around in the egg. Some of the 3rd and 4th grade students were able to participate in candling the egg. This is a process where a bright light was held under the egg allowing us to see the shadows of the developing chicks. We are excited to continue to watch them grow!

We also had a few exciting events. First was our Aloha To Spring event. Students enjoyed food, a limbo competition, some arts and crafts and BINGO. A huge shoutout to our amazing PTO who hosted the great BINGO games. Next we had a visit from Pete the Cat and got to read with Sandy the Therapy Dog. The students also got to participate in our Solar Eclipse on April 8th by going outside with special glasses that allowed to partake in this wonderful experience. There is always something going on at Riley.

Finally Riley celebrated Earth Day! Students learned about the importance of Earth Day and came up with ideas how they are going to help protect it! We are so proud of our Riley Raptors as they dedicate themselves to making the planet a better place.
