February was a fun filled but busy month at Riley. Throughout the classrooms students were learning about Black History Month along with important people and events that have impacted African Americans. The hallways were decorated with what the students learned throughout the month.
Also in February Riley hosted "Cozy Up With A Good Book". A parent event to celebrate students publishing their books. Third graders wrote books about the weather, fourth graders shared books about animals and fifth graders wrote about ecosystems. In the morning parents were invited into the gym to enjoy their child's book and some treats, along with important information for their child's learning. During the day students got to participate in a hot coco treat and celebrate at our publishing party where they read with other scholars.
ACCESS testing was in full swing this month as scholars showed how much they have grown in their English. We can't wait to see how well they did when we get results later in the year. Finally After School Clubs got into full swing. Board gamers had tons of fun, arts and crafts made valentine crafts, dance finished their routines and student council made valentines for the teachers. Our ESL tutoring program also continue to do amazing work with their scholars.
Finally we celebrated the 100th day of school on February 14th! Students were challenged to find 100 Raptors hidden around the school and bring in posters showing 100 items. The scholars had a blast and Riley was able to celebrate 100 days of learning.
In March students will participate in Read Across America, take IAR tests, and get pumped for Spring Break as we start our final trimester.
