Miles of Smiles will be coming to Berkeley School District 87 in February and March 2024. All children who return a completed permission slip are eligible to receive a dental exam, prophy treatment, fluoride varnish treatment, and dental sealants.

Over the last several months, the District 87 Strategic Planning Committee has been working to develop a strategic plan which will shape the direction of District 87 over the next five years. The Strategic Planning Committee, which is composed of staff, students, community members, and administrators, need your feedback on the Proposed Strategic Plan.

On Wednesday, December 15 at 7:00 p.m. there will be a Winter Band Concert at Northlake Middle School. This Band Concert will feature students from Northlake, MacArthur, Riley and Sunnyside.

For the third year, our D87 Art Teachers have coordinated a greeting card contest for our students. Congratulations to our winner Desiree Lobo from MacArthur!

The groundbreaking ceremony for the District 87 Referendum was on June 1, 2021. Thank you to those that attended the groundbreaking ceremony. Another big THANK YOU to everyone in the District 87 community for your part in supporting the District 87 referendum!

During the month of November, the schools at Berkeley 87 have partnered with Positive Health Systems and will be hosting vaccine clinics at each site for students ages 5-11 for Covid-19.

At the June, 2021 Board Meeting, the Board of Education voted to eliminate the Dress Code that previously dictated student’s clothing choices. The new Student Appearance Policy (727) states:

The program allows the District to make significant and historic improvements focusing on 21st-century learning, STEM, security upgrades, infrastructure, life safety and site work.

Skyward News Student Enrollment and Returning Student Enrollment is available for families to complete beginning on Tuesday, March 23.

Beginning on Monday, June 7 Community Meals to Go will be served at Northlake Middle School. All children 18 years old and younger are eligible. All meals are free.

Please join District 87 for the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new MacArthur and Sunnyside building. The ceremony will take place in the field next to the current MacArthur and Sunnyside building and will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1st.

Students who will be attending school in-person will be provided with their breakfast/lunch before leaving the building each school day.

All District 87 families are qualified for the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer Benefits (P-EBT) program through our participation in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)

District 87 parents now have the opportunity to take the ninth annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of each District 87 school.

Starting on Tuesday, March 31 2020 the serving time will be from 10:00am to 11:00am. Meals will be served at both MacArthur Middle School and Northlake Middle School.

As our school buildings continue to be closed, our staff is working hard to ensure learning continues for all students. After receiving additional guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education, District 87 has created a Remote Learning Plan based on our e-learning practices.

The Harlem Wizards will be back in town on Saturday, February 8th! Don't miss this fun-filled, high flying & interactive community event featuring the world famous Harlem Wizards basketball team.

District 87 held its first annual holiday card contest. Students in grades Kindergarten through Eighth submitted artwork to be featured in the District's holiday card. Each school selected a winner and a District winner was determined by the central office administrative team.

Come out to celebrate the start of the school year by attending our Back to School Bashes on Friday, August 16 from 4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Supply Drop Off/Meet and Greet will be held on Monday, August 19 from 12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Summer School is from June 10 - June 28. The hours of Summer School are 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Summer School will be held at Jefferson Primary School.

On Wednesday, January 30th and Thursday, January 31st, District 87 had to close schools due to unsafe weather conditions. Rather than have to make up these days at the end of the school year and lose 2 days of learning, we created Self-Directed Learning days for our students and staff. Please take a moment to provide the District with your feedback. This information will help the District decide if Self-Directed Learning should be used in the future.

Save the date! On Friday, April 12th at 7pm the Berkeley School District 87 All Stars will take on the Harlem Wizards in a fun and exciting game of basketball. This game will not be your typical game of basketball.

To register a returning student for the 2019-2020 school year, parents/guardians must complete “Skyward Returning Student Online Registration” for each child prior to May 31, 2019.

In an effort to continuously improve the Residency Verification process, District 87 has partnered with a vendor to electronically verify the residency of our families. Parents’ names and addresses will be cross-checked against electronic databases, such as utility companies, to determine residency.

The committee held a community engagement session on Wednesday, November 14th at Sunnyside School. The Wold architects presented background information and an update to the community on the work of the committee to-date. Preliminary options were shown and those in attendance had the opportunity to share their feedback. The next committee meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 28th. The final report from the committee will be presented to the Board at its Facility Meeting immediately preceding its regular Board Meeting on Monday, December 17th at 7:00 p.m.

In our continuous efforts to provide the best education and opportunities for our students, the District is excited to announce our Chromebook TechEquity Take Home initiative. This initiative will begin with all 5th and 8th grade students taking their Chromebooks home each night beginning on Monday, December 3rd.

RETURNING STUDENT ENROLLMENT Another opportunity is being provided for returning families that have not yet completed the Registration & Residency Verification process.

School District 87 will be providing free breakfast to all children under 18 at no cost this summer at Whittier Primary School.

All returning District 87 Families must attend one of the following dates in order to enroll for the 2018-19 school year: Saturday, April 28 OR Tuesday, May 1.

Parent Teacher Conferences are on Thursday, March 1. Beginning on Tuesday, February 6, parents will need to select a time to meet with the teacher(s) using Skyward Family Access. Contact your classroom teacher or school office if you need help resetting your Skyward password.

Cold and flu season is upon us. To prevent widespread flu in the school, we recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing flu or cold symptoms.

The Berkeley School District Menus have gone digital! Beginning on Monday, December 4 you will be able to see images and descriptions for food items, as well as nutrition and allergen information.

Thanks to the work of volunteers representing our students, parents, teachers, staff, administrators, and Board Members, District 87 now has a new mission statement. A mission statement should answer these questions:

Monday, October 2nd was Custodian Appreciation Day. On behalf of Berkeley School District 87's School Board and Administration, we would like to thank all of our custodians for keeping our schools and district facilities clean, safe, and functioning on a daily basis.
